The new Rs 500 banknotes, which will be issued by banks from today, have extra security features besides having peculiar colour, theme and size which differentiate the new bills from the earlier series. "The new denomination has motif of the Mangalayan on the reverse, depicting the country's first venture in interplanetary space," the Finance Ministry said in a statement. The Rs 500 banknotes will be stone grey in color with a predominant new theme of the Indian heritage site Red Fort.
The Reserve Bank of India is introducing new design banknotes in the denomination of ₹2000 as part of Mahatma Gandhi(New) Series. The new denomination has motif of the Mangalyaan on the reverse, depicting the country's first venture in interplanetary space. The base colour of the note is magenta. The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both on the obverse and the reverse. The size of the new note is 66mm x 166mm.

Just two days after the government introduced the new Rs 2000 note in order to curb the menace of counterfeit notes,a farmer was duped with a fake Rs 2,000 banknote in Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru district.The farmer, identified as Ashok, was at the APMC market on Saturday to sell onions. An unidentified person reportedly bought some his produce and paid with the fake note. Afterwards Ashok showed the note to his friends, who discovered that the note is a mere photocopy of the original note.
The new Rs 2,000 currency note is available to the people as the Mahatama Gandhi (New) Series. The Reserve bank of India has issued some guidelines for you to check if your Rs 2,000 note is real or fake.

The size of the new note is 66mm x 150mm. The colour of the notes is stone grey and the predominant new theme is Indian heritage site - Red Fort.
